Hahaah freakin' Scrooge McDuck and the pogo-cane!

I've been wanting Black Panther in a game ever since I saw him in the 90s Fantastic 4 cartoon, but I think Carnage would be my #1 Marvel pick (besides Venom, who was one of my mains in MVC1+2). As much as I like God Hand, Gene is a total jerk, hahaha. They need to throw Rival Schools fans a bone and get Kyosuke or Batsu in there.

I never really thought about how long Tekken move lists were, but I have to say that if I hadn't been playing the game since Tekken 3, it'd be pretty daunting to just jump in with the latest game. Even for me, I think it would be pretty difficult to pick up a new main character in Tekken 6, especially if I hadn't used that character at all in Tekken 3, 4, etc.

But to be honest, I think the 2D fighting games have just as much complexity as the 2D games, especially since 2D fighters are sooo fast. You have 1/2 the time (or less) to think about each move and each counter/defense, and probably 1/6th the time to do combos and juggles. I think the hardest/highest damaging combo for any given Tekken character would be about as difficult as a mid-range difficulty combo in SFIII or KOF. Of course Tekken didn't used to be all about combos and juggles, but that's another story.

Great episode guys. :)

When you mentioned Ducktales I was thinking of Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers. Think about it if they were randomly in MvC we can have chipmunks vs racoons with the Rescue Rangers and Rocket Racoon.

I'm legitimately excited that Iron Fist is FINALLY in a Marvel fighting game. I used to always tell my friends how can they have a fighting game with Marvel characters and not have THE fighting master in the Marvel universe?

I read that article and it's kinda cool. I never thought about it, but he has a point us fighting game fans are freaks, in a good way. Once I stopped and thought about it, it is true, I mean what other gamers worry about counting the frames of animation for something?

Looking forward to what you guys say about Seasons Beatings, if you cover it. I know you've been getting hype Soul Bro Ryu. :D We've been tweeting during the match between Viscant and Jago for MvC3.

I was playing Virtua Fighter 5 today and I pondered the whole long move list thing. Tekken and VF both have long move lists for their characters but I still don't think that would stop people from learning the game. I main Lion in Virtua Fighter and although I do know a lot of his moves I still don't remember everything when fighting a match. But I win a lot (or at least show I'm not free) because the moves I know I know well. I know when to use them, what they beat, how fast they are etc. If you want to get into VF I suggest practicing a lot and finding out which moves work in different situations and not try to memorize the whole list of moves. Also for VF only the thing that makes it kinda hard to get into are the throw escapes. It's kinda like parrying in SF3. That stuff gets real complex for me, in SF3 OE I get bodied by these guys who know how to parry well. Good news is that they're simplifying throw escapes in VF 5 Final Showdown. Some people are complaining about that, but I'm all for it, I think people should be good because they know what to do and not because they couldn't put in the command correctly.

Since you said you wouldn't mind having a VF player on, I wouldn't mind being on sometime, or I'll try and find someone who knows more than me. TBH I'm not a professor at the game but I know more than anyone else I know personally. XD

I was actually explaining to someone last week that the only difficult throw escapes in Tekken are King's throws - and for that reason it's generally considered poor sportsmanship to use his throws! Obviously in a tournament setting most pros will have memorized the throw escapes, but in regular arcade play you'd just end up pissing people off by doing complex throws.

3D Fighters is definitely a subject that we must rap about on a future episode of Shinjuku Fight Club. Nick & I aren't the most knowledgeable on that sub-genre of fighters, but we've dabbled a bit. It will be nice to have some folks on who know their stuff about those games and play them a lot more frequently then we do. Xaos will be joining us next ep to talk about Season's Beatings and some other recent news, but when we gear up to talk about 3D fighters I get in touch with both of you to let you know when we're recording for that session.

Good stuff, fellas. This shit is coming together ^_^

Great podcast guys.

I'd like to think I'm still part of the fight community since I still love fighting games but at the same time not really since I don't really fight folks online. Call me all fashioned but I still like to play fighting games when my opponents are in the same room. People take turns fighting, then giving each other a hard time if we lost and giving mad props if we pulled something amazing. Beer would then be involved when we got older. A lot of those guys either moved to far off places or just stopped playing altogether. I guess I still equate a good time with fiighting games when its spent with good buds that are right there with you.

I totally feel the same way. I really don't like playing online, it's a completely different experience to playing your friends in person. Even when I'm playing total strangers, I'd rather be right there at the machine to see them.

One of the few times I played 3rd Strike in the arcade, I Ken-flowcharted some guy's Akuma to death, after which the dude started hitting and shaking the machine all violently*. That was way more satisfying than having some loser rage-quit online.

*it was one of those japanese-style machines where two machines face each other back to back so you facing you opponent instead of side-by-side.
